Make it as simple as possible for them to sign up. Given them an incentive to join your list. A free product which you send them once they’ve signed up or maybe access to a secure area of the site which has a lot more information not available to anyone else. Make sure what you’re offering them really is worth something to them as this is your first contact, and will shape your relationship for the future.
The next step is to start to build that relationship through your emails. Before you starting sending out emails, you need to find out what it is your audience need answered. What problems do they have that you can help answer. What goals do they have that you can help them achieve. Once you know this, you can begin to send them emails with this information. The result, you will start to have a captive audience that will listen to your advice because they know the information you are going to give them is worth something to them.
